National Museum of Damascus

Syria's largest and oldest museum. Its façade is the gate of the Umayyad desert palace of Qasr al-Hayr al-Gharbi, and inside are finds from Ugarit, Mari and Palmyra, plus the painted Dura-Europos synagogue.

History

Founded in 1919; the current building opened in 1936.
